Where to Have a Kids' Birthday Party in Singapore: A Venue Guide

The short answer

Most children's parties in Singapore happen in one of six places: at home, a condo function room, a booked HDB void deck, a restaurant or café, an indoor playground, or outdoors at a park, beach or Sentosa venue.

For children under five, home or a condo function room is usually the easiest choice — short travel, familiar surroundings and a nap never far away. From around age six, indoor playgrounds and dedicated party venues start to win, because the entertainment is built into the booking. What decides it for most families is budget and guest count rather than geography: home and function rooms remove venue hire entirely, while restaurants and playgrounds bring a minimum spend.

At home

Familiar, comfortable and free to book — hard to beat for younger children, and the reason at-home parties remain the most common choice in Singapore. You control the guest list, the timing and the food, there's no minimum spend, and nobody is watching the clock.

The trade-offs are space and clean-up. An HDB living room holds roughly 10–15 children before it starts to feel crowded; past that, consider spilling into a booked void deck or moving to a function room. Styling earns its keep here more than anywhere else — a balloon installation and a proper backdrop turn an ordinary living room into a party in about an hour.

HDB void decks

Frequently overlooked, and one of the best-value options in Singapore. Void deck bookings go through your town council, usually for a modest fee, and give you covered open space directly beneath your block — no travel for you, and easy for neighbours to drop in.

Two things to plan around: bookings run per slot, so setup and teardown have to fit inside the window, and a void deck is a public space, which means passers-by and no air-conditioning. They suit larger guest lists and older estates with generous ground-floor space, and they pair well with a home base upstairs for the cake and presents.

Condo function rooms

The value champion. A function room in your own condo typically costs a fraction of a commercial venue, arrives with tables, chairs and air-conditioning, and often has a pool or playground attached. If you or a close friend live in a condo, check this first.

Every management office runs its own rules, so confirm the details early: the booking window, whether external caterers and decorators are allowed, the time you must clear by, and any deposit. Access matters just as much — lift bookings and loading-bay rules determine how fast a setup can go in.

Restaurants and cafés

Ideal when you'd rather not cater or clean up. A private room keeps the noise contained and the bill predictable, and the food is somebody else's problem. Plenty of family restaurants in Singapore will put together a set party menu at a per-head price.

Watch three things: the minimum spend, the time limit (two hours is common), and whether outside cake and decorations are allowed — some venues charge cakeage or restrict what can go on the walls. Ask before you commit to a theme.

Indoor playgrounds

A reliable crowd-pleaser for active children from about four upward, with entertainment built into the ticket price. Packages typically bundle play time, a party room, food and a host, which removes most of the planning in one decision.

They can be busy and loud, slots are fixed, and the room is rarely yours for long. Book early for weekend afternoons — the popular ones go weeks ahead — and check the sock, age and adult-supervision rules so nobody is turned away at the door.

Parks, gardens and the outdoors

Singapore has genuinely lovely outdoor options, and several neighbourhoods are built around them: Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, Jurong Lake Gardens, Woodlands Waterfront and Pasir Ris Park all work well for a picnic-style celebration with a shaded setup.

The catch is the obvious one. Any outdoor party here needs shade and a wet-weather fallback — ideally a function room or home you can retreat to. Morning slots are markedly more comfortable than afternoons, and a covered pavilion is worth more than a pretty view.

Sentosa and resort venues

Sentosa's beach clubs, resorts and villas make a party feel like a proper getaway, which suits milestone birthdays where you want the day to be an occasion rather than an afternoon. Expect venue minimums, and sort access early — delivery vehicles, setup windows and what you're allowed to bring in are the venue's call, not yours.

Weather planning matters even more by the water: shade, a wet-weather backup and a realistic view of the midday heat will make or break a beachside party.

• Woodlands — a mix of established HDB estates and newer BTO blocks, near Causeway Point and the Woodlands Waterfront.
• Sentosa — resort venues, beach clubs and villas for a destination-style celebration.
